CHAIN REACTION: States Pass Teacher Firearm Carry Laws

At least two states, Ohio and Louisiana, are pressing forward with legislation allowing teachers to be armed to protect against mass shootings, according to reports.

Efforts to enact these common-sense measures are spearheaded exclusively by Republicans, who oppose blanket, unconstitutional gun bans.

According to the Washington Examiner, a bill allowing Ohio teachers to carry firearms was recently passed and is headed to the governor's office for signing.

"My office worked with the General Assembly to remove hundreds of hours of curriculum irrelevant to school safety and to ensure training requirements were specific to a school environment and contained significant scenario-based training," DeWine said, "House Bill 99 accomplishes these goals, and I thank the General Assembly for passing this bill to protect Ohio children and teachers."

Louisiana GOP Senator Eddie Lambart has reportedly proposed legislation to allow teachers to be armed in similar ways as in Ohio. Both these bills would require that teachers undergo specialized training.

Sen. Lambart said, according to NBC "You don’t want anybody who is not fully trained in this situation: This is not for just some Joe Blow,”
