U.S. News - There is something unusual happening in the United States. As food prices soar, processing plants are burning down across the United States in large numbers.

The latest incident was referenced by 3WTKR in Chesapeake, Va. A fire occurred at the Perdue Farms facility last Saturday evening, and according to the station, “All employees from the area were evacuated,” The fire apparently began in a large soybean processing tank.

According to a Timcast report, “Fires began showing up regularly in the news after a fire closed a Tyson Foods meat processing plant in Kansas.” Approximately 6% of beef in the entire country comes from this one location, which speaks to the monopoly that these large plants have on the meat market.

The next fire was in August of 2021 at the Patak Meat Processing plant near Atlanta, GA, which is also a national supplier of meat and a major part of the American supply chain.

This news was quickly followed by reports that another, less notable, meat processing plant in Georgia had burned down.

A massive fire destroyed a Walmart fulfillment center in Plainville, Indiana on March 16, 2022.

Another fire occurred at New Hampshire’s East Conway Beef and Pork, according to reports, the fire was so large that it took “16 hours to extinguish.”

And if the list is not long enough, on April 13, 2022, in Salinas, CA, Taylor Food Processing Plant burned to the ground, followed by the Azure Standard Food Processing Plant in Dufur, Oregon. This fire led to an investigation by the ATF.

In total, there have been more than 16 of these fires across the nation in the last year. This has caused a stir on social media as of late, mostly regarding theories explaining the possible correlation between these occurrences.

It has yet to be seen if there is any intentionality to these fires, but you do have to wonder how this will impact meat prices in this county for the rest of 2022 and beyond.
