Golfing stars Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson and Brooks Koepka are among those who left the PGA Tour in order to collect larger paychecks from the LIV event. On Thursday, Trump defended Saudi Arabia's role in the tournament. "I've known these people for a long time in Saudi Arabia. They've been friends of mine for a long time," Trump said to ESPN. "They've invested in many American companies, they own big percentages of many, many American companies, and frankly what they're doing for golf is so great." LIV Golf has sparked significant controversy due to being financed by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund. Saudi Arabia has faced strong criticism from Democrats and a few Republicans.
