World's Top Swimming Association Bans Males From Swimming In Women's Competitions

- News -

The world's most influential international swimming association, FINA, announced a policy change that bars biological males identifying as females from participation in elite competitions, according to The Daily Wire.

“We have to protect the rights of our athletes to compete, but we also have to protect competitive fairness at our events, especially the women’s category at FINA competitions,” FINA President Husain Al-Musallam said.

Women's rights advocates see this policy change as a step in the right direction, but confusing in its logic for so-called "trans" swimmers, as it seeks to open up another category for "open" competition. This category would apparently be open to both biological males and biological females, and therefore would be heavily male-dominated.

“FINA will always welcome every athlete. The creation of an open category will mean that everybody has the opportunity to compete at an elite level. This has not been done before, so FINA will need to lead the way. I want all athletes to feel included in being able to develop ideas during this process,” Mr Hussain Al-Mussallam added.
