Devision is sometimes necesary. There are doctrinal and theological hills worth dying over. But just as there are core doctrines of the Christian faith that are simply undebatable, we must also recognize that not every doctrine is presented in the bible with the same clarity and importance. When we come accross those who sew division over minor issues or even personal preferance, we are warned to avoid them at all costs. This passage has special importance for those in church leadership.

The apostle paul lays out for us the clear principle of 'love of nieghbor.' Our abligation as Christians to do good to our fellow man, and even serve the weaker among us. Here, the weaker brother--or stranger, both are our nieghbors--may be someone who is spiritually weak, or that weakness may include mental illness, phisicall ailments, etc. The Christian does good to his nieghbor (his fellow man) because he knows it pleases God. It is right that we want to do good, but if we find ourselves doing :good" to feel good about ourselves or to recieve praise from others, we are likely doing that act of "good" for the wrong reasons. It's always been very interesting to me how specifically the Bible talks about common issues and thoughts. You would think for a book that old it wouldn't have much helpful information for us. I have to say, this passage often is helpful for me.

"Should we go on sinning that grace may increase?" This is a danger for those who understand God’s grace, and who follow Christ as their savior, but who fail to see Christ as their Lord. For those who are saved by God’s grace, their sin should decline as their understanding and appreciation of the cross grows. If this does not happen, then there is good reason to be concerned about the state their salvation. As Martin Lither said, "We are saved soli fide soli gratia, or "by faith alone through grace alone," but the faith that saves is never alone." Meaning that a Christian with true saving faith will certainly sin, but they will never take the approach of continuing in sin that God’s grace might simply ignore it or as Romans says, “abound.”

A beautiful passage describing the access we have obtained to the Father and his mercy. This special love and mercy is only felt by those who have put their faith in Jesus Christ.

Here, we have a very interesting passage. One that shows how since the beginning of time it was not by works that man was saved, but by faith in Christ. We trust in the Christ who has come. Abraham trusted in the Christ who would come. Both faiths are in Christ, both are counted to us as righteousness.
